Account and data removal
Delete your OpenFamily account
OpenFamily accounts belong to the self-hosted server where they were created. The server administrator controls those records and handles deletion requests. The app publisher cannot directly access or erase data on your family’s server.
Delete from the app
- Open OpenFamily and sign in to the server where your account was created.
- Open Settings and choose Delete account.
- Review the confirmation and complete the deletion.
Account deletion removes your account, devices, and associated location data from that server. If you are the last administrator of a family with other members, promote another member to administrator first. Shared family places and records that belong to other members may remain. The server operator may retain audit records or backups according to that server’s retention practices.
Request deletion without app access
Contact the administrator who gave you the server address or invitation. Ask them to delete your OpenFamily account and associated personal data from that server. Include the server address and account email so they can identify the correct record; never send your password or location history.
If you cannot contact the administrator or need help finding the deletion steps, email contact@openfamily.app with the server address. OpenFamily support can provide software guidance but cannot perform deletion on an independently operated server.
Effect of deletion
Once the server administrator completes deletion, the account and its associated device and location records are no longer available in the app. Records shared with other family members, server audit logs, and backup copies may remain as described by the server operator. Ask that operator about any remaining records or backup retention.
Read the OpenFamily privacy policy for more details about information handled by the software and external services.
